Raised on technology, 86% of millennials recently surveyed for a national lock manufacturer (Schlage) also said they were willing to pay about one-fifth more in rent to secure a smart apartment featuring electronic locking devices, automated thermostats and/or lighting controls. But wait there’s more! 61% said they are likely to rent an apartment specifically because of its electronic access features including keyless entry doors. 55% said they are likely to pay more for an apartment that has “high-tech” door locks. If this sounds like you, you are probably a millennial or maybe not. A lot of Gen Xer’s and Baby Boomers have embraced the technology to end the hassle of getting locked out or losing the house keys as well as granting temporary access to workers or guests while away.
